Dr. Sachs was portrayed by Robin William's in the film "Awakenings," and it was a wonderfully accurate.
He wrote the popular book, "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat," and some other lesser known books, of which
"Awakenings" was one. He is a doctor of Neurology, and is in particular interested in Brain Neurology.
I have seen him speak, and he is just the most charming person - grandfather/absent-minded professor extraordinaire. He is
inquisitive, and a man of great warmth and empathy. His writing reflects this: he is a joy to read.
He has also written a book, "Seeing Voices," that is a remarkably insightful and sensitive look at Deafness, and the Deaf culture.
There is still a great deal of bigotry and ignorance about the Deaf people, and this book goes a long way toward bridging the gap
between the hearing and Deaf cultures.
