I took my wife to her surgeon's appt today for a followup on an injury she had 12 days ago. The antbiotic she was on was causing her problems so he wrote a script for something else. Got it filled and she had already taken the first dose before I had looked it up on onhealth.com's drug database. One of the drugs it conflicted with was Coumadin, a blood thinner (guess who's on Coumadin). Called the doc's office and after the initial "Gasp!" she was told to not take anymore, watch for signs of bleeding, etc. Well DOH! If she had continued with the remaining 19 doses it most assuredly would have done serious damage. And this doc is considered to be one of the best in this area. Bottom line; before starting any new med, look it up on the web. Don't trust your doc, the pharmacist or the fact sheet that comes with the med (the one that came with this one mentioned nothing about drug interactions). In other words, CYA 'cause no one else is gonna do it.
