The downside of the pills is that they can take up to an hour to kick in unless they are taken at the VERY FIRST WARNING SIGN of an impending attack. This is tough to do when sound asleep at the time The Beast pounces, but is quite practical during the day. Most clusterheads are pretty adept at noticing the warning signs, and most of us get at least a ten minute grace period between the first tingle and the exploding eyeball feeling.
If I take a 100 mg pill, snap it in half to expose the inner crumbly stuff, and eat both halves at the very first sign, the pain never gets much beyond a Kip 5, and even that level is for only the last five or ten minutes. For me the pain is completely gone within twenty minutes of taking the pill.
BUT... if I wait too long, then all bets are off. That's when I kiss the feet of the team that developed injectable Imitrex.
