I work for a major pharm. co. that manufacturers a major Antidepressent. As a fellow CH sufferer I wish AD's helped. Some docs use them for migraines with success but the physiology of CH's is very different and AD's dont' seem to help. But there are rare exceptions to every rule!
The best things for preventative measures are either prednisone (steroid) or verapamil (calc. channel blocker)---but you probably already knew this.
Imitrex is the other popular abortive technique.
Extreme exercise is my abortive technique of choice (jumping rope). It works every time for me within 15 minutes as long as I don't let the headaches get over a 5 on the pain scale before starting the exercise.
I'm lucky, just about every med helps me. But why abort when you can prevent? Verapamil is safer in the long run than Imitrex.
