My grandfather forced his family to speak English rather than Swedish. It was sometimes spoken by my great aunts but he always said that if you are welcomed here, you should speak the dominant language. Languages affect ways in which people think and act, as well. It's a complicated but more versatile than many. I don't care about the god thing. It's been around a long time but not as long as some think:
In God We Trust was first placed on two-cent coins in 1864. It was short-lived and wasn't placed on coins again until the 1909 Lincoln penny. The founding fathers were not at all bible thumpers. In many cases, just the opposite.
It's a great place and the world is better off with Americans around.
