I went round and round with my GP, Neuro and Insurance Co (HelathNet) at the beginning of this cluster. My Neuro blew me off, telling me I would just have to live with the 6 injections that the insurance allowed. I fired him!
My GP wrote prescriptions for every triptan allowed:
6 Imitrex injections
6 Imitrex nasal sprays
9 Imitrex pills
9 Amerge pills
6 Maxalt pills
6 Maxalt melt on your tongue pills
all of the various stuff in the amount the insurance would allow in one month.
and then we petitioned the insurance for more. In the mean time the GP gave me a script for cafergot which the insurance doesn't ration.
I used the triptans until the monthly quota was used up and then switched to cafergot.
We did manage to get the insurance to ok double the Amerge allowed per month and they oked it through April. My cluster is over but you can bet I'll be getting each and every one of those refills and saving them for next time.
