Some people have reported sucess with melatonin, and there is a definite link between seasons and clusters, but not for everybody. Mine are usually in the summer.
With melatonin, the dose and the timing are both important. Taking melatonin in the day can make things worse - the biological clock becomes even more disrupted.
Clusters are very clever, and what seems to work once doesn't always work the next go round. 5HTP (the nutritional supplement that is one step from serotonin)seems to work best for me. This summer I also took feverfew, magnesium, and avoided all alcohol. No clusters for the first time in four years, but maybe I am just lucky. The supplements I took were reasonably safe, and there is evidence that they help some people. But the beast cannot be tamed in all people by any single treatment.
