Hope you don't mind if I take this opportunity to blow off a little steam, Harold. I was on narcotics for a long period following a back injury which had caused an inflammation which affected a disc and caused paralysis of my left leg. The drugs were valuable, because they kept me from having spasms, which would cause further injury and make the potential for any recovery impossible. Moreover, I was limited to a horizontal position on my back for therapeutic reasons, and the narcs kept me from going nuts and also enabled me to crawl to the bathroom when necessary. People need to understand that pain killing drugs have legitimate uses and think twice before condemning certain very valuable medications merely because of their potential for addiction. In my case, I got lucky and recovered from the injury without surgery and was only too glad to throw away the narcs when they were no longer needed. Although I had been in a drugged stupor for a long time, I was only too glad to stop the meds and had absolutely no negative withdrawal symptoms.
Most clusterheads are all too aware of the addictive potential of narcotics. In some cases they can have enormous therapeutic value and if taken responsibly will not turn you into a dope fiend unless you are already predisposed for that.
