These work by interfering with muscle contraction. They prevent the movement of calcium across the membrane that lines muscle cells, which is an esential part of the mechanism of muscle contraction. As a result of this interference, the walls of the muscles relax and dilate. This action decreases the work of the heart's blood pumping, reduces the pressure of blood flow through the body, and improves the circulation of blood.
