In my experience this technique is at least as effective as dosing during cycle. This is exactly how I stumbled onto the treatment in the first place!
The only downside is that when your episode fails to materialise on schedule - you have know way of knowing for sure it was the hallucinogens that helped. For this reason I have been advocating taking at the beginning of a cycle, so that we can accumlulate data more hard and fast data.
Having first hand experience of this treatment every year since 1993 I have been able to play about a little and explore the parameters of what is possible. This has given me a fair understanding of the way CH operates.
I don't think that CH is something that suddenly shows up for 2 months of the year and then goes away. I think that CH is a gradual process. A chemical build up caused by the defective hypothalmus causing the glands to produce of slightly too of something (possible serotonin or a precursor) over a long period of time. I think that this excess something builds up over time and eventually a threshold is crossed where the pain kicks in. I think in episodic sufferers the process is somehow reset (possibly due to the headaches themselves causing havoc) chronics are not so lucky. I realise that this doesn't answer all the questions but it does explain why taking a hallucinogen outside an episode will produce a full length remission. For instance my headaches ran a 7 month cycle. They didn;t come at the same month every year, but moved forward a month. If I took the hallucinogen 2 months before my episode was due to start then I would skip a further 7 months. The episode would then come 12 months after the last one!
I've taken hallucinogens out of cycle several times and they have always produced a decent remission.
I suggest you go for it!
