Margi collected several (by no means ALL... not by a long shot) links to posts on this board from people who have had this procedure. I believe Barbara D also posted in the same thread.
The success rate is pretty low. Side effects are common. Some of the risks (death, for example) are pretty sobering to contemplate.
I believe the wisest course of action is to exhaust ALL, and I do mean ALL, medicinal approaches first, including, of course, the medicinal approach with the highest success rate of all... the hallucinogens.
Any specialist worth listening to would agree that surgery should be contemplated only after all other avenues have been exhausted.
