First off I too get the nausea thing. I am also extremely sensitive to light during my episodes. I know what you mean by pucke due to the pain. I also ocassionally get the visual disturbances of a classic migraine (B&W zig zags), but this is during a CH - usually a #10. These symptoms are more often associated with migraine but about 10% of CH sufferers also experience them. Given that the physical effect of the blood vessels dilating is very similar, this shouldn't come as a surprise. Still sucks though!
Second, onto the hallucinogens. These really do work. They have worked for me since 1993. They are incredible. Here's what you need to do:
1) Get a positive identification on the shrooms if possible. What kind does your friend say they are. Different shrooms require different doses.
2) Go to this page, and read it carefully. Read all the important links as well. This will tell you 99.9% of everything you need to know.
3) COme back here and post another message if you still need that extra 0.1% of information.
