I suffered from "classic migraines" from my preteens (female -- now late-30s) til about age 30. At that time, the migraines phased out, and seasonal cluster HAs phased in... Then, my clusters went chronic. After three years and about 60 preventive, abortive, and pain relief medications (incl. inpatient DHE), I finally saw a Chronic Pain Management Physician nearly a year ago -- an anesthesiologist. This dr returned the "quality" to my "Quality of Life." by prescribing *methadone* every day as a maintenace pain reliever. (I also continue to take Verapamil as a preventive.)
Yes, I have *occasional* breakthrough HAs, and use quick-acting pain meds for those... But, I have my life back! I urge all of you have tried all/most of the preventive and abortives to consider seeking the advice of an *anesthesiologist* who specializes in chronic pain management.
