Hi, Yes, coming off high doses or prolonged dosing of steriods can and does cause severe muscle cramping. Muscle relaxants can help. The problem does need to be monitored closely. High dose or prolonged steroids will put your adrenal glands "to sleep"....so to speak. I was on relatively high doses of prednisone for a sustained period and needed to be hospitalized to safely bring me down. I still need to be cautious for a year.....my adrenals will probably not function normally in an emergency. Take care and I hope this helps....irene
