Depends what kind of shroom you are talking about. Psilocybe azurescens (Flying Saucers) are substantially more potent than the more commonly used psilocybe cubensis, which is considered to be of "moderate" potency. Other commonly used species such as psilocybe cyanescens (wavy caps) are also substantially more potent.
Most of the discussions here revolve around home-cultivated psilocybe cubensis. The consensus seems to be that a gram of dried p. cubensis should be sufficient to take care of your cluster headaches. Some have reported spectacular success with even less than that. I am aware of one clusterhead taking about a fifth of a gram of home-grown p. cubensis who experienced complete relief. That is a pretty darn miniscule amount, no matter how you slice it!
I agree that a dose of five grams of p. cubensis would be excessive for anyone other than a Grateful Dead or Phish groupie. Even three grams would be pushing the envelope for a first time user.
