Dan, it only seems like your losing your mind. Your reaction to extreme pain is normal. At least to me it is. I've done the screaming and crying, and cursing many many times. I have my own special "fuck you mantra" that i say over and over while rocking back and forth on the floor while getting hit. So you are not alone, nor crazy.
I had clusters when i was in grad school. I studied like crazy any chance i got between attacks. I was determined then that i was going to win, and it was not going to take over my life. In a way i pushed myself to achieve more, because i had to work harder than others because of the clusters.
I've been chronic for almost 7 years now. It's gotten worst not better. (How is that for encouragement?) The only advice i have for you is this....take it one hour at a time, set up short goals for yourself, try to feel good about meeting them, because your doing the best you can. Reach out for help and don't be afraid to admit when you need it. In between attacks savor life and take time to impress in your mind what is beautiful about it. Keep those impressions with you to fall back on when your feeling your worst. The last bit of advice i have is to tell those around you that love and support you, that you are thankful, and that you love them very much. All supporters need to be told this.
Stick with us Dan, you'll be sure to find what may help you get through the worst.
