Hi Kat (and anyone it concerns),

Do (did) you use Oxygen O2 the right way ?

The most important point is: Oxygen must be as pure as possible, near 100%.

To achieve this, you must use a proper Non-Rebreather Mask.

Such a mask is fitted with a reservoir bag and non-return valves.
A suitable model is the Salter Labs, Ref 8130, you can see a picture of it by clicking here

If your mask has lots of small (or large) holes around the inlet it is not suitable for CH, as these holes are designed to dilute the oxygen with room air that is sucked in. These mask are for long time use for people with lung diseases.

If you use the proper mask, a flow rate of 7 - 10 liters / minute is usually sufficient; the bag will then never deflate completely.

It is advisable to use a humidifier. If your regulator is not fitted with one, you can buy a separate one for about $5.

Our great Kip, father of the Scale, in his relentless quest for improvements, has found out that cooling the oxygen does improve its effectiveness. Ask him for details.

And last, but not least: For good results get on O2 as soon as possible!

Some people are using a concentrator. These contraptions are filtering out the Nitrogen from the air, so you are left with oxygen in high concentration.
Advantages: Always available (short of a power failure), so you never run out of oxygen. Cheap to run.
Disadvantages: Less than 100% O2 concentration. Usually low flow rate (about 5 l/min). Expensive to buy. Biggest disadvantage: Slow startup.

Bob P explained the Ionizer. To this I'd like to add: Some might produce the poisonous Ozone 3 in small amounts, and people have reported to be triggered by this.

PFNAD's,
Ueli
