I suffered very painful headaches for a number of years and I had gotten a number of different medications from my Doctor to combat them. The headaches were very unusual in that no medication would help. When I changed Doctors in 1997 my new doctor told me that the symtoms I described were classic symtoms of "histaminic cephalgia". I researched this and found that this was basically Cluster headaches. My Headaches were coming in the late fall and staying until January or February. While I was searching the internet for information I came across a report from/about a sufferer who suggested that his cluster headaches were related to Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). He went and got special lighting for his house or office to give him the daylight effect.
When I thought about this I determined that it might help my case. Based on some history I felt it (SAD) may be the cause of my headaches as well, during the fall and winter of 95 and 96 I was building my house and spent a lot of daylight hours outdoors and sufferd no headaches that season. During the fall and winter 96 and 97 my headaches returned and again during the fall and winter of 97 and 98.
So armed with this information and my personal history I started walking everyday at lunchtime all fall and winter of 98 and 99. I had no headaches that season. I continued walking and walked through the winter of 99 and 2000 always at lunch time to get the most effect of the sunlight, no headaches last season either. Am I cured? I don't know, but I am planning to take my walks at lunchtime again this winter and I am hoping for the same results. No more Cluster headaches!
