I received a TMJ splint on 8/22/00 and wore it initially whenever I could but faithfully everynight. This same week I started to develop dizziness. I didn't think too much of it other than it may be from some medication I am on. The dizziness increased and became more severe by the week. Let me describe the sx. It is not the room spinning type of dizzy but a very slow motion, dreamy, up close type. I know this sounds weird but only way I can describe it. It caused nausea, diahrea and pretty much ruled my life. In about the 3rd week I called my doctor who put me on Claritin and Flonase thinking I had an upper respiratory problem but we agreed after one week if sx not improved we would do neurological testing and schedule and MRI. I got to thinking about my splint and wondered, maybe this is causing the dizziness? It has everything to do with your neurological makeup. I asked my dentist, "No, I don't believe that would do it". Not to discredit a dentist but I know they are not educationally trained in TMJ and just do this on the side. I had quit wearing my splint the Thursday prior to seeing him and by Monday, 4 days later my dizzness had greatly subsided. The next day better, today much better. I still feel a little spacy but I truly believe that the splint was the cause. I definitely want to get back to wearing since it did greatly relieve my sx but I am going to do it very gradually over months time to get back to wearing it everynight.
