Ergostat was manufactured at a plant in Puerto Rico. A few years ago the plant was temporarily shut down (probably by the FDA) for violations of some sort unrelated to making Ergostat. During that time, the only Ergostat available was whatever had been previously manufactured and shipped and was still on the pharmacists' shelves. Apparently after the violations were taken care of, the manufacturer decided to no longer continue making Ergostat. It was just around that time that Imitrex was approved. I used Ergostat when it was available. It tasted terrible, but it did work quickly.
Last year my neuro wrote me some prescriptions for Imitrex, first the pills and then later the nasal spray. Both work well for me, but the spray is much quicker. It can later leave a bad taste once 'the draining' goes full bore, but I'll take that bad taste over the pain any day.
