In reading some materials about the 5-HT pathway, coupled with
my curiosity about monoamino oaxidase (the enzyme responsible
for metabolizing 5-HT), I thought that the CH problem, as
it might be directly linked to 5-HT and the 5-HT2A receptor,
could be the result of several things. As we discussed
below, perhaps overproduction of 5-HT. However, how about
if 5-HT production remained normal, or increased only slightly
during a cycle, and the actual problem was MAO? I think
MAO-A isozyme is the 5-HT-specific enzyme.
What if MAO-A was not made in sufficient quantities
to fully regulate 5-HT levels?
Do people that take MAO inhibitors suffer HA's?
Are those in MAO-I's therapy utilizing a MAO-A or a MAO-B inhibitor?
Where is MAO produced?
How is its production regulated?
Is its production regulation a 5-HT levels-dependent
feed-back meachanism?
Any leads, links, etc?
Thanx in advance.
