Up until a few weeks ago, I was on the standard Predisone, Verapimil, Imitrex course of treatment. My last cycle started in late June and my neurologist decided to experiment with Topamax (topiramate). I had to ween myself off of the Verapimil (240mg three times a day) and start Topamax at 25mg 2 times a day increasing the dosage slowly up to 50 mg 3 times a day. As of three days ago I am no longer using Verapimil and am at the 50 mg 3 times a day of Topamax. I have not had any headaches in the last three days. These three days have included working outside in our infamous Florida summer weather doing some much needed chores around the house. Usually when I am in cycle going between outside heat and inside airconditioning can trigger my headaches. I even tempted fate yesterday and ate chocolate! No headache. If my cycle is normal, I should only be 1/3 the way through it. So, maybe this drug has some real impact. Much too early to tell..
It does has some down sides.
I feel like I'm thinking through molasses. But I am not as tired as when as I was on the Verapimil.
I do know that I have a two week tour of England coming up in August and I'm asking my doctor for my standard Predisone dose pack to add to my Imitrex emergency kit "just in case" !
