I have gotten clusters since high school and for years they went like this: excruciating pain lasting seconds or minutes starting mid-morning and getting longer throughout the day untill I had a full blown migraine by 9 pm. I was diagnosed by Dr. Seymore Diamond with atypical cluster headaches and have since seen my headaches evolve into typical cluster headaches. So, for me, the sharp quick pain that takes your breath away was definately part of clusters. To be honest, if I were you and the headaches were annoying, but were not interfering with daily activities, I would see a doc to be sure all was OK, but I would wait to start down the med path until the headaches began interfering with life 'cause being on meds and the search for meds is an adventure that is best avoided if possible!
