I noticed the following when doing breathing
exercises during an attack: It helps!
This is what I do:
Do push-ups and sit-ups 'till it hurts like a MoFo (release of endorphins).
Lay down and relax afterweards.
Take very deep breaths for a while (pump O2 big time by Hyperventillation)
Subsequently, take very short breaths (accumulate CO2)
Repeat the cycle a few times.
Also, you may want to consider the possibility of a simpler
expalnation: Homeostais (Vascular tone) recovery via constriction and dilation, as
triggered by the varying O2 levels in the blood, as the
breathing patterns are changed quickly.
"Fight or Flight" responses involve more of an involuntary release
of a myriad of agents and hormones. Such can't be controlled, i.e.:
adrenaline (as in large amounts being released at once, has to accompany the event to
be interpreted by all organs in the body as a true F/F situation). Just my experience.
