Cluster pain is not only much more severe than other kinds of pain, but it also seems to "hurt different" (sorry, Apple!) from other kinds of pain. It's like the two kinds of salt that people can use on their food on a daily basis, sodium chloride and potassium chloride. Both of these are salt, but potassium chloride is *different* in a way that can't be explained. You have to taste potassium chloride to know. I suffer from chronic headaches, but not from chronic clusters. I know this because there's a difference not just in the quantity of the pain, but also the quality of it. I can *always* tell the difference between a shadow, regardless of how mild it is, and one of my chronic headaches, no matter how bad it is. Cluster just hurts different.
