Thanks for sharing your concerns and input.
First, I'm 99% certain that LEGALLY OUCH must require dues in order to separate the voting from the non-voting members.
Second, Not For Profit doesn't mean 'free'. It is a legal and tax classification which basically means that the organization does not exist for the purpose of generating profit, as BobP said. Further on in the Bylaws you read is a section which states specifically and emphatically that no Officers or Directors will even be paid for anything they do.
Finally, OUCH is committed to supporting all cluster sufferers and their supporters. No-one is refused admission to the Convention, member or not. The materials and web sites are available to everyone. The only difference between being a paid member and a non-paying 'guest' is that only the members can vote on OUCH matters.
