I wondered the same thing, John.
The article I read most recently about this was not a scientific one, but the author did state that most people do not see a doctor about this condition. Probably somebody around the affected person would tell them what had caused the pain. They probably would be careful in the future. Personally, I think a lot more than 30% have had this headache but have ignored it. Has there been a controlled experiment?
The ice cream headache interests me for another reason, also. I am one of the few who seem to benefit from applying heat during a CH attack.
If I let hot coffee rest in the roof of my mouth near the back I definitely get some relief. Picture what cold would do to me! Shudder.
