Seems to me tension headaches occure on both sides of the head. More of a feeling of a band tightening around your skull and down the back of your neck. I get tension HAs all the time and they are nothing like CH. Fiorinal usually takes care of my tension headches in short order.
The pain of my CH is located some in the eye but a lot in the temple, forehead and above my ear on one side of the head only. I do get the runny nose and teary eye but some CHers don't.
Sounds like CH to me. Maybe your doc is not familiar with CH. Take some of the info from the site and share it with your doc.
