When I'm in a cluster, I keep a handtowel in a large stainless mixing bowl full of water. That bowl stays on the bottom shelf in the 'fridge. That gives me a large cold compress immediately available, with no fussing around needed when the attack hits.
Folded over a couple times, it can apply to a relatively large area.
Then an icecube tray gets dumped into the bowl, ASAP. When the towel warms, it gets resoaked in the ice water.
You'll need to experiment with how much to wring the towel out - too dry and it warms up immediately, too wet & the water running down your neck is insufferably annoying when in extreme pain.
Solution to that is lean forward and let it drip on the floor, in sink, etc.
Works pretty good
