I was an educator but know next to nothing about autistic children. Here is my suggestion for pain relief. Get a tank of oxygen with a regulator that you can set the flow at 8 -10 liters and a face mask. If Jim is getting relief from Imitrex, it is probable that he is having cluster attacks. I have received a lot of relief from breathing oxygen since I can't take Imitrex. The other reliver, for me, is Lidocaine. A doctor can prescribe this. You want a 4% solution. I put it in an empty saline spray bottle and drop some of the anesthesia into the right nostril and let it drain back into my sinuses. I believe that if you can provide some relief for your son, he will soon tell you somehow when he needs it. I have never had much success with the preventive drugs, but the abortives like Imitrex and oxygen have saved my life--literally. I admire you and hate like hell what you and your son are going through, especially your son.
