Your first question, “does that mean that we don’t know what we don’t know”?
My answer is, “yes”. “It is impossible to not know what one knows. And yes, obviously one cannot know what one does not know”.
Your second question, “does it mean that we know ENOUGH to know that we do know what we do and don’t know”?
My answer is, “the theory of general relativity, which provides a theoretical framework for understanding the universe on the largest of scales and quantum mechanics, which provides a theoretical framework for understanding the universe on the smallest of scales inexorably leads to a disturbing conclusion. They are mutually incompatible. Well, recently a guy named, Brian Greene came up with a new theory called superstrings. This theory provides a theoretical framework that allows the universe to be understood on the smallest of scales, (i.e.: molecules, atoms, electrons) AND on the largest of scales, (i.e.: stars, galaxies, clusters of galaxies). These two are now mutually compatible according to his theory. YA-HOO! I’d be willing to bet though, that we still do not know ENOUGH”. I have a funny feeling that only time will decide what the definition of ENOUGH will be”.
I would also refer you to Jack Boyd’s response to your post. I would only add this. After the Butterfly farts and Jack has a Cluster attack, the wind that is released from the buttocks of the butterfly in Peru may in fact cause a tornado to form in London, England as a result of the Butterfly’s flatulence.
Of course I’m not sure what any of this has to do with Cluster Headaches except that I believe that there is a whole bunch of stuff involved in the process of a Cluster attack. Some things we know and some things we don’t know. But it sure is some fascinating shit if you ask me. Fairly painful too.
PS This is also some of the weird shit that I try to think about when I am “coping” and “handling” the exquisite, excruciating pain of a Cluster attack. I try to let my mind “wander” while I’m waiting for the attack to end. Sometimes I appear to be a bit chaotic during an attack too. Hope this helps.
