After going to the doctor every day this past week...finally am feeling better...Monday lab work...blood tests...won't get that results until this Monday...mixup of some kind...Holter Monitor 24 hr...results...BP too high..pulse ranged from 89 - 139 beats per minute..way too high...24-hr urine test...not back yet...
After wearing the Holter and all, I still had not talked to my doctor (even before my trip to Cincinatti), and I really didn't want to fool around and have a stroke or something...Her nurse told me Monday morning that she misunderstood and didn't realize that I wanted to come in the office before I left on my trip....her fault...She finally got scared (gave me her private beeper number for me to use anytime I was in trouble) after I came in and showed her my chart of BP/Pulse since the 13th...Had to CHs since that time..
Thursday I just insisted that I see or talk with my doctor (not just her nurse)....They had me come on in and didn't make me wait in waiting room...had a room ready...They checked my BP 169/105, pulse 119...they immediately did an EKG...I think she thought I was throwing some PVCs at that point...
When my doctor came in...I explained I had wanted to see her before my trip and she was shocked...she said NO ONE Had told her I wanted to see her and that I was in this much trouble...I guess the nurse got her a good chewing. My doc put me on the Inderal 60 LA..to be taken between 7 - 7:30 in the evening...I was taking it back in the 70s as a preventive....She also put me on anxiety med...BuSpar (anyone on that one?) 2 week starter kit...said if they didn't do anything to call her and she would try something else...She said I was not like most of her patients...that I knew a lot about my CHs, about meds, what was normal test ranges, etc...she said sometimes that can be bad,,,,I told her I knew enough about medicine to be dangerous...but on the other hand...I don't want things to go unchecked and have a stroke or heart attack at my age especially....My doc was shocked over my vitals....she said you never had this problem before when I saw you...that's right only when I am in a series of headaches or in pain,,,,then it goes up...She said try not to use the Imitrex unless I just had to since my vitals were staying up so...I still feel all this is CH related... She wants me to continue to monitor my vitals and write them down..I can tell already I am better...My heart was beating so fast, I was tired and worn out..short of breath and all...My family wanted to take me to ER two nights in a row....or let them come and spend the night with me so I wouldn't be alone...I just hate to bother anyone...wouldn't even let them drive me to doctor each day....Too Darn Independent....I wasn't born on the 4th of July for nothing...
Anyway....that was Friday and my BP has come way down and pulse is staying in the 90s....feel better...Just wondering since the Inderal is a beta blocker and Verapamil is a calcium blocker...wonder if the Inderal could be used alone to prevent CH breakthrough....She advised me not to take any more of the Synthroid until she got my lab results back...Neuro thought I was still over medicated on thyroid meds....My PCP and I agreed that wouldn't it be wonderful if that was my problem and was as simple as that??????? Sure hope so...She also thought the Verapamil could cause increase in pulse rate...anyone else had similar reaction to meds or have answers...
My headaches started back on 12/28/98...after 3 years of pain free days....about 1 month following addition to Synthoid...Then 2 or 3 months ago follow up lab showed I was on way too much throid med...she said it was way off the chart and lowered me to .15 mg...not she said she would probably be lowering it more after lab results...Anyone else taking tyroid med? Have you experienced rapid pulse...? more headaches? more severe headaches than before? Just trying to find a link...always grasping for that silver ring....but always just out of my grasp...
I have been staying in all week...didn't feel like going out and then also been tied down with testing here.....just reading my new book "Harry Potter and the Scorcerer's Stone" loved it...Wish I had a magic wand like Harry and get rid of all the CH from all of us....just destroy the evil one that lerks in our heads and makes us crazy and apprehensive....
Thanks to all of you that have keep me informed by E-mail....we have such brains in our group....highly educated bunch of folks...that is one link I think....we do know a lot about our illness...We have to....the docs don't seem to have a handle on this illness or treatment...
Pain free days and peaceful nights...to you all.
