one of the calcium channel blockers, in the same category as Verapamil. Because of the initial success with Verapamil, Nim. has been tried along with others meds of this type. Medical literature is thin but it doesn't appear to be as effective as Verapamil.
But, since effectiveness of any med in preventing CH is often in the 50% or less range, all we can do is run a series of trials to find something which works for us. It's also clear that a preventative med sometimes works for a time and then stops being effective. Triggers off another round of trials to find something else which helps, i.e., patience and willingness to try several meds is essential to finding relief.
Nimodipine is not a migraine drug. Peter Goadsby's recently published research, which gained so much attention on Ch.Com, shows (and this is his claim) that CH and migraine share the same basic processes in our brain--but affect different parts of the brain. This commonality is why the majority of effective meds for CH are also effective for migraine.
