If you're using Imitrex with the new injectors (hate the damn things).... back up to the wall, put your arm up and "roll" the "fleshy part of your arm forward using the wall as support. Give the injection in the fleshy part (sounds like you might have tried for the muscle.) It DOES feel like a bee sting when it goes in, but that's just for a second. I've never been afraid of needles so I can shoot myself anywhere (except DHE in the stomach!) But the imitrex does sting for a second or two.

The feeling of nauseau may have come from giving yourself the injection. I get jittery with Imitrex, but have never been nauseated with it. Sometimes people pass out from the thought of a needle tho. If the spray or pills work for you - great - use them. They just don't work for a lot of us.
