I'm reaching again, as this isn't my field but I do try to pay attention to things I read and hear.
First, Bi-Polar Disorder is now the accepted term for what most of us call manic/depressive. It is a 'legitimate' disorder listed in the DSM. I believe it is a primary illness rather than a secondary-i.e., it's caused by, I think, chemical imbalance.
Certainly, clusters lead to depression. We all see it here on the board every day, and many of us slip into a depressed state. I think our 'manic' phase, however, is just the feeling of relief and joy when we're painfree and able to enjoy all of life.
I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all or something (truth be told, I know very little), but it might just fan the flames of disbelief among the undeducated if we started saying we're bi-polar as a result of clusters.
