My father was manic depressive. From what all I have been told, it is heredity. I know of others in our family that have it. For a while they thought I had it, put me on Lithium then later, agreed I was not manic. Just depressed. During the manic attack the person feels there is nothing they cannot do. My father gave away money to people on the street the summer before he died. He bought alot of things, My cousin bought 4 or 5 organs in her manic spell. Patty Duke suffers from this and has written a wonderful book on it. If they take the medicine and are monitored by blood tests, they can lead a normal life. Please feel free to e mail me.
