Liz, you're going through the exact thing my wife is going through. Even though the spikes hit 10, she is seldom without some lingering pain, usually a 3-5 at all times. They gave her Verapamil, and Amitriptyline, but the Verapamil was 240mg, once at night before bed. It is the Covera-HS. The only things that have helped to a degree, are Oxycontin sustained release, 40mg twice a day, and Demoral IV. She has a Vital Port, so our insurance allows me to give her the demoral as needed, not to exceed a certain amount. If you get a good aggressive pain management Dr., maybe he will give you a true pain med. I know it is a heated debate on this board, that pain meds aren't a cure, they just cover things up, but sometimes, when the pain is constant, you have to cover it up for a while to survive. Feel free to email or ICQ me for any additional details. Been there, done that.
