To all my friends,
Most people feel passionate about politics, freedom, and religion. Some for one side, some against. The beliefs here are well written and have that passion behind them. Most people have stong views about religion.
Those that are religious don't want to feel that they are slighting their religion in their everyday life. They would be judged for that later. And if you truly believe, why would you do something that jeopardizes a relationship with the object of your religion?
Those that aren't religious often feel that religious people are self serving and fooling themselves into believing in something that can assure them of a future reward that won't come, or use religion to force an advantage of some sort for themselves over others . . . depriving the other person of some freedom or another.
Can an infrequent dose of pornography hurt the curious? Probably not. Can a steady dose make someone feel that this is the norm and change their view of the world around them. Possibly. Has television changed what is accepted as the sexual norm and affected laws governing sexual behavior and reduced the age young folks become sexually active. Sure. Are these changes for the better? In some cases yes, in others no.
So what is my point? I don't think Karla is telling us to block certain web sites. She is actually trying to get one open . . . for herself. And this site can get a little raunchy . . . come on, fess up. And Karla and Ted's children are their responsibility. Are they screwing them up . . . or helping them? Only God knows, and She's not talkin'. But Ted and Karla have to make that call for their own kids. To says they shouldn't have control over what their children watch, would be to deprive them of an essential freedom. When their kids are 18, the kids can pick a side for themselves.
Am I religious? Who cares? That's my personal freedom of choice.
With respect to all of our points of view,
Steve W.
