It didn't help when my nightly attacks were occurring with uncanny regularity. However, now that they have become more random and less frequent, I'm quite sure that melatonin helps get me safely through the night. It's relatively harmless, so it's probably worth a try. By the way, it doesn't make me sleepy at all. I've tried taking melatonin also during the day, but it seems to cause angina-like sensations in my chest when I exercise (could be constricting the arteries slightly, which I read about somewhere), so I take it only before bedtime.
